Miami, Sickness, Weight, Moving

Sooo got back the other weekend from Miami, where I was attending the 2009 Future of Web Apps conference.   I was there for 5 days, did some shopping and got some sun - also did some stellar networking and re-upped on inspiration.   I also designed/animated the graphics package for the conference, which you can see samples of here if you are interested.

After I returned to LA, I picked up what must have been the flu, and was literally bed-ridden for about 3.5 days with migraines and fever.  So that was fun.  All better now, just nursing a cough.

In the course of being sick, I lost 8 pounds, so that makes me really happy.  (That’s sarcasm, it actually makes me angry.)

And, lastly, but CERTAINLY not least, Carol and I got the keys to our new apartment on Thursday night!  We are moving into an amazing 4 unit building, three blocks from the beach.  The building was built in 1908 and is historically protected, which means that it has more charm than a southern belle.  Old school door handles, a vintage ironing board, spanish arches in spots and a great open layout.

Feeling Strong

Today towards the end of my workout, I threw a bunch of weight on the flat bench and set a new personal (calculated) max record: ~282.  Seeing as that was towards the end of my workout, and I’m also generally stronger when I actually do max weight instead of calculated max, I’m actually feeling pretty good about breaking the 300 mark sometime soon.

It’s exciting for an ex-scrawny bastard to finally be able to put size on.  I weighed 224 today, which I think may also be a weight record.  My lanky days may finally be behind me!!  Rejoice!

Moving (the video is, not me)

If there’s one thing that you’re guaranteed being a Barack Obama supporter, it’s that every now and then you read something he has written, or hear something he says, or appreciate the message he sends, and you feel all warm inside and realize that there is hope moving forward (without being cliche’).

Anyway, here is a video about one of his supporters.  It’s 3 for 3 pulling tears out of this cornfed rugger.

Ridiculously Easy Voter Registration

In this election it’s going to matter more than ever that everybody who is eligible to vote has their voice heard.  Here is a new site that makes it extremely easy to register, or double check your existing registration (which everyone should do) to make sure everything is on the up and up.

Check it out here

While you’re at it, research the FACTS and make sure you’re on the right side when November rolls around.

Wheatgrass? Hm.

Wheatgrass is just an example.  There are plenty of other things, like other gross drinks, pills, diets, etc.

To the majority of people, these things are the same as high school track athletes shaving to “reduce drag” (yes I knew a few).  Guess what, there are 100,000 other, more important things you can do to improve your performance at that level.   Just like when you’re a 25 year old smoker/drinker/lazy bastard, there are 100,000 other things you can do for your health that are WAY more important than being sure you “dont take too many carbs cuz they are the devil”.   How about running/biking a few miles.  How about not smoking.  How about doing something that takes some sort of effort more than reading the latest article about whether or not the hot new diet in the magazines is good for you.  Drives me crazy, mixed priorities.  I’m not saying the above things aren’t important, but it’s like trying to decide what set of $5k rims to buy for your 1984 Skyhawk.  Maybe you should upgrade the car before you worry about the rims.

You know what a good thing to do is?  Use your brain.  There’s a good start.
